Much gratitude out to Nancy Pruitt for breaking out the big lens for this one.  Set up way down the beach, she caught this otherworldly view of the Rogue reef.   And then there’s the view south toward Hunter Creek and Kissing Rock.

And here’s one from the parking lot of Clayton airing it out at the Cape last week while I was rigging.

And here’s Jeff hitting one.  I hope you’ll forgive me for not shooting more this day but considering the conditions, perhaps you understand why I didn’t take more time out for the camera.

And Clayton again, this time pulling Gs at the jetty.  This photo thanks to James.

Both these parting shots from the Rogue jetty last week, with a gale warning in effect.  Sure it’s still Spring but it totally feels like Summer.

I do have some sad news to share though.  After almost a year of thumbing my nose at gravity with that ultralight prototype mast from NoLimitz, my luck finally ran out as I was getting rolled by big outside closeout I should have run from instead.  It was the day after the photos above were taken, while running 4.5.  The size and sea state were comparable and sure I only broke half the mast but yeah.  The sesh I’d been having up to that moment was so good that it was worth the swim.  Late light at the jetty, with a smooth wind.  Peaky but smooth faces.   I was sailing clean and feel like I was scoring solid points for artistic impression.

One other piece of bad news is after all that fat talk in my last blog about how warm the ocean has been, it took a precipitous dip last week and has been feeling a lot more like always.  Like right on the edge of freeze ass.   But hopefully that is just temporary.  Because there’s  a big difference between 50ish and 55ish.  And it’s hard not to think it’s my fault for blogging about it.  With my sincere apology if it is.

And speaking of artistic impression, my friend Steve DiCicco has been getting some sweet turns in the Cape lately.  Dude has been paying his dues and making huge progress with his attack for sure.  Massive stoke in place and much respect is due.

Thanks to James for this one.
